SAB Member Announced Chair of ECOG Lymphoma Committee
We are pleased to announce that MCLC Executive Committee and SAB member Brad Kahl, MD was recently appointed chair of the lymphoma committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). Formed in 1955, ECOG is comprised of a large network of academic medical centers, community physicians, researchers and other healthcare professionals who cooperate to perform large-scale cancer clinical trials.
Kahl, whose research focuses on new therapeutics for lymphoma at the University of Wisconsin, said he is excited for the challenge of continuing to advance the group toward bigger and more successful research. "It gives me the opportunity to bring groups of investigators together to encourage collaboration and sharing of ideas and knowledge," he said. "So that we can accelerate the pace of lymphoma research and ultimately make a difference for those suffering from lymphoma."
Having been involved with ECOG over the last several years and running trials through its system, Kahl is familiar with the benefits the federally funded group can provide to research. He has plans to continue to foster teamwork and efficiency.
"For certain questions in lymphoma the only way to obtain the answers is for the U.S. cooperative groups to work together," he said. "One of my goals is to help facilitate that because I know everyone wants the research done as fast as humanly possible."
