University of Oregon students organize a soccer tournament to benefit lymphoma and gain business experience

EUGENE – The University of Oregon World Cup, presented by adidas®, will be held May 17 and 18 at the University of Oregon recreation center turf fields to raise awareness of lymphoma and money for lymphoma-focused research.

Members of U of O's Warsaw Sports Marketing Club, which is a student organized group, spent months organizing the UOWC to benefit lymphoma research and to gain real world sports business experience.

The event is entirely organized and coordinated by students.

"The experiences and lessons learned while putting on the UOWC are truly invaluable," said UOWC director, senior business student Eric Richter. "The event has such a great cause and as members of the Warsaw Sports Marketing Club we also learn every detail of how sporting events truly work."

Last year the UOWC raised nearly $5,500 and will be accepting donations at the tournament this year to benefit the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

The tournament runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with the winning team being awarded its trophy at the conclusion of the tournament.

The tournament features eight teams from the Northwest that compete in two divisions. There is a collegiate invitational division featuring club teams from U of O, Northwest Christian College, Oregon State, Southwestern Community College and four other teams. The other division features U of O student teams and Eugene area community teams.
