About the Lymphoma Research Foundation

Mission

The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) is the nation's largest lymphoma-focused voluntary health organization devoted exclusively to funding lymphoma research and providing patients and health care professionals with critical information on the disease. LRF's mission is to eradicate lymphoma and serve those touched by this disease.

History

LRF was formed in November 2001 by the merger of the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation (CFL) and the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America (LRFA). CFL and LRFA were both founded by lymphoma advocates who sought to turn life changing diagnoses into a positive experience for others with the disease. The late Ellen Glesby Cohen, who lost her own battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2000, founded LRFA in Los Angeles in 1991. In 1994 CFL was founded by Jerry and Barbara Freundlich in New York City. Jerry is a 16-year survivor of non-Hodgkin lymphoma thanks to research and a chemotherapy protocol that cured him.

Leadership

LRF funds cutting-edge research to find a cure for lymphoma.

  • An 18-member Board comprised of business leaders, medical professionals and lymphoma survivors from across the U.S. heads LRF
  • Scientific Advisory Board, made up of approximately 45 of the nation's leading lymphoma researchers and oncologists, oversees LRF's research program that fills a critical gap in the national lymphoma research infrastructure

As of December 31, 2008, LRF has funded over $37 million in lymphoma-specific research. LRF has also launched several special research programs, including an unprecedented initiative to study Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is especially challenging to treat.

LRF also provides a comprehensive series of programs and services geared to patients and their families which address treatment issues, the latest research advances, and coping with all aspects of the disease.

Programs and services include:

LRF also offers informational webcasts featuring leading lymphoma researchers, radio broadcaststeleconferences, publications, and newsletters.
