Take a Step with LRF in 2014
Start your team today and take a step to find a cure for lymphoma. The Houston Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community members and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma while raising funds for research and programming. Pictured on the right are some of our fabulous walkers from 2013.
We are always looking for new members to join the Lymphomathon Planning Committee. Not only will you play an integral role in the success of the Lymphomathon, but you will have the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of volunteers who share your passion of making a difference in the lives of those touched by lymphoma. If you are interested in joining the Planning Committee, please contact Jen Torres, Community Engagement Manager, at (713) 724-7202 or email email@example.com.
Our First Cooking Program is a Delicious Success
The Houston Chapter and Memorial Hermann Southwest Cancer Center partnered for the first-ever "Making Healthy Eating Delicious" program on September 12, 2013. Darian Hewitt, Memorial Hermann Executive Chef, and Erika Jenschke, Oncology Dietician, demonstrated how to make three healthy recipes using super-foods (pictured on right).
Attendees were able to sample each dish while learning how each ingredient was nourishing to the body and mind. We would like to thank our in-kind sponsors Central Market and Sysco for donating all the food for the program.
If you were unable to attend the program but would like copies of the recipes presented, email Jen Torres at firstname.lastname@example.org. Pictures from the evening program can be viewed on LRF's National Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lymphomacommunity.
City of Houston Partners with LRF during Blood Cancer Awareness Month
A big thank you to Houston City Hall for supporting LRF's Light It Red for Lymphoma campaign by lighting up red September 13 -15. More than forty Chapter supporters gathered to honor their loved ones touched by lymphoma (pictured on right). Following the photo, the group enjoyed a social hour at Hard Rock Café.
In 2010, September was designated as Blood Cancer Awareness Month by the United States Congress. Since then, LRF has been a leader in raising public awareness about lymphoma. Iconic buildings and landmarks around the country participate in our annual Light It Red for Lymphoma campaign to bring hope to those affected by lymphoma.
Jodi Lemley Succeeds Kristin Hess as Chapter President
Dear Chapter Members,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly elected Houston Chapter President for the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) as of June 1, 2013. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in February 1994 and underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I'm thrilled to say that I have been in remission ever since thanks to the extraordinary medical team at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the support from friends and family.
When I was diagnosed, LRF did not exist and it was difficult to find information about lymphoma. I had to rely on family and friends that "knew someone" to put me in touch with to talk about their experiences, treatments, and support. Fast forward to 2010, I discovered the Houston Chapter of LRF and quickly realized the powerful research funded by the Foundation.
I am excited about my new role and hope to help others through their lymphoma diagnosis. I am truly honored and humbled to have been asked to replace the outstanding Kristin Hess as Chapter President and look forward to growing the Chapter through outreach initiatives, education programs and community fundraisers.

Second Annual Love to Find a Cure Wine Tasting held at Porsche of West Houston

Guests came together to support the Lymphoma Research Foundation and raised nearly $20,000. A highlight of the night was a last-minute live auction package - a Porsche of the winner's choice for a weekend!
