NEW YORK CHAPTERDear Chapter Friends, We thank you for your involvement and support of the Chapter and its grass-roots efforts to fulfill the Foundation's mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by the disease. We invite the participation of new friends. In particular, we need help with our Lymphomathon planning and with planning an inaugural foodie event. Please look for our monthly Chapter newsletter during the first week of the month, detailing our upcoming activities. As always, we invite your feedback on how the Chapter can better serve our local lymphoma community. In addition to the events and activities described below, please share with us what you would like to see from the Chapter - what types of events and programs you would attend, how we might best serve you, and how you might wish to become involved in helping to further LRF's mission. Please feel free to drop me an email or give me a call (516-357-3530), your feedback is appreciated and invaluable. Thank you for all your support and involvement in the Chapter and LRF's mission, and we look forward to seeing you soon. Making a Difference: The LRF Advocacy Program
Our local Advocacy Program focuses on taking action on laws, policies and positions that affect every lymphoma patient and survivor. By contacting elected officials via phone calls, e-mail and letters in support of these priorities, local advocates help LRF to make lymphoma a national health priority. At present, LRF Advocacy Chairs and Advocacy Committees are working on a letter to the editor campaign. Advocates will be involved in submitting letters and working collaboratively to have letters published in local media outlets. The campaign strategy should be informed by the number of advocates who will be targeted for participation. LRF has chosen three policy topics for chapters to choose from: federal investment in lymphoma and cancer research; federal funding for the CDC Hematological Cancer Education Program; and U.S. drug shortages. To become involved with these advocacy efforts, contact your local Advocacy Chair today at advocacy@lymphoma.org. To learn more, click here.
