Ace Lymphoma Tennis and Game Luncheon Raises Tens of Thousands of Dollars for Lymphoma Research
Event Chairwoman shares her personal lymphoma experience
When addressing the crowd at the inaugural Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) Ace Lymphoma Tennis and Game Luncheon, Chairwoman Vivian Friedman used the words "overwhelming" and "heartwarming" to describe the experience. Her journey to the event could be described in the same way. Vivian, whose daughter recently celebrated her 10th anniversary as a lymphoma survivor, knows all too well what it is like to witness a loved one deal with the effects of the disease.
Vivian was not the only one of the nearly 300 guests in attendance at the June 7th fundraiser to have a personal connection to lymphoma. Amidst the tennis play, card games, fabulous auction items and delicious food, attendees took a moment to reflect on a dear friend and longtime LRF supporter, Jane Benjamin, who recently lost her battle with lymphoma. It was in Jane's memory that Vivian dedicated the event.
Attendees spent the morning in South Orange, New Jersey, playing doubles round robin tennis on Orange Lawn Tennis Club's lush grass courts; enjoying card and game rooms featuring bridge, canasta, and mahjongg; and perusing over 125 luxury auction items. All came together for a delicious lunch prepared by Bravo Television Network's Top Chef contestant Ariane Duarte; and a short program featuring Vivian and Errol Cook, Chairman of the LRF Board of Directors. Through the dedication and hard work of Vivian and the event's organizing committee, and the generosity of the event's supporters, LRF has raised over $59,000 to support its programs and services. The Foundation wishes to thank program organizers and attendees for their support.
