10th Annual Love to Find a Cure Restaurant Revue

Nearly 200 guests attended LRF’s 10th Annual Love to Find a Cure Restaurant Revue on Thursday, February 9th at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis. The event was a great success raising over $80,000 in support of LRF’s mission. Joe Schmit, KSTP-TV Sports Director, a lymphoma survivor and 17 time Emmy Award winner, served as the evening’s emcee. Dr. Thomas M. Habermann, Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic and Chair-Elect of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board, provided exciting updates on LRF-funded research grants and announced the return of LRF’s Minnesota Workshop, the Foundation’s premier patient education program, later this fall.
Dr. Habermann also presented this year’s 2017 Inspiration Award, bestowed upon Jessica Deutsch, Melissa Furch, Jeanne Morris and Jim Taglia. The honorees, all of whom are lymphoma survivors, are members of one the top Minnesota Lymphoma Walk fundraising teams, The Knockouts. Since starting their team in 2011 they have raised nearly $50,000 in support of LRF and they have already signed up their team for the 2017 Minnesota Lymphoma Walk in June. For more information about the Walk, please visit: www.lymphoma.org/MNwalk.
After the award presentation, the crowd welcomed long-time LRF volunteer and talented musician Jim O'Neill, who shared his inspirational story about his own lymphoma diagnosis last year. Jim, who credits his involvement with LRF as a volunteer with saving his life, had been motivated to raise funds and awareness about the disease after a coworker lost his battle with lymphoma over a decade ago. Jim had been participating in local fundraising events and met with several local LRF volunteers who invited him to participate in the very first Love to Find a Cure event. Since then, Jim, his fellow musicians and friends, have been a key element to the evening's entertainment. This year, however, Jim's presence at the event took on a whole new meaning. Not only did he provide an outstanding musical performance, he attended the event this time around as a lymphoma survivor.
We would like to congratulate this year's honorees and thank our guest speakers for their participation in a wonderful evening. LRF would also like to recognize our generous Restaurant Partners, including: BRIE Cater, Blue Door Pub, Mediterranean Cruise Café, Izzy’s Ice Cream, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Bogarts Doughnut Co., Pharaoh’s Gyros, and Red Cow, who served delicious savory and sweet bites for all to enjoy.
