Your gift is a big help in the fight against lymphoma. You can choose to make your gift either as a one-time donation or by pledging to make regular donations throughout the year. Your gift can be earmarked to honor special occasions in your loved ones' lives: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, etc., or to celebrate the memory of someone who was lost to lymphoma. If you choose to donate online, rest assured that your donation will be a fast, secure online transaction.

We greatly appreciate your support of our fundraising endeavors!

Challenge Grants
The Lymphoma Research Foundation is on the leading edge of specialized research to fight lymphoma.  In special collaboration with private donors connected to lymphoma, the LRF has established targeted research programs to fight Mantle Cell LymphomaFollicular Lymphoma and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Guided by the LRF's world-renowned body of scientific advisors, these programs demonstrate the focus and expertise that LRF can harness, in a cooperative and open setting, to advance the world's knowledge of these diseases.

Recent scientific advances against lymphoma are paying off:  both disease survival and patient longevity are improving, oftentimes with less toxic treatments. The next three to five years in lymphoma research will be crucial to the ongoing development of diagnostic tools and novel therapies to fight lymphoma.  Targeted drugs, individualized treatments, and the decoding of cancer cells' microenvironments are promising areas of research and development.

The LRF needs your financial investment to grow its groundbreaking research initiatives and to launch new initiatives focused on specific types of lymphoma.  Your investment can make a difference in the lives of every lymphoma patient, perhaps including your own.

For more information about how you can fund a specific research initiative, either one listed above or one that is not listed but is of particular interest to you, please call Diane Blum or Evelyn Lipori at (800) 235-6848.

Charitable IRA Legislation renewed through 2009
Good news for individuals 70½ or older with individual retirement accounts! The President has signed into law a two-year extension of the IRA Rollover provision which will be made retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through Dec. 31, 2009.

The provision exempts from taxable income any funds transferred ("rolled over") from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a charitable organization. The following limitations apply:

  • The donor must be age 70½ or older.
  • The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000.
  • The contribution must be direct gift to a charity.

If you are required to receive a minimum distribution from your IRA, you can support the important work of the Lymphoma Research Foundation as the Pension Protection Act gives you the ability to donate any amount up to $100,000 from your IRA to charitable organizations through your IRA between now and December 31st, 2009 without incurring taxable income or using the gift as a deduction.

The charitable distribution may count toward your minimum required distribution. Although you cannot claim a charitable deduction, there will be no income tax on the distribution amount.

As always, please consult with a qualified legal and/or accounting professional when making financial decisions. For further information, please contact LRF at (800) 235-6848 with any questions you may have.

Workplace Giving
Many companies and governmental agencies have programs that enable their employees to make donations through payroll deductions. If you would like to support the work of LRF through your workplace giving program, please look for "Lymphoma Research Foundation" in your workplace giving campaign brochure. Note the corresponding designation code number, and fill it in on your pledge card. If you do not find a listing, then write Lymphoma Research Foundation, 115 Broadway, 13th Floor, New York, NY 10006 on your pledge card.

Wills and Other Planned Gifts
One of the easiest ways to make a gift to LRF is by leaving the Foundation a bequest in your Will. There are several ways you can do this. Click here to learn how.

Gifts of Securities
Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer. Giving publicly traded stock that has increased in value that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. Also, you save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership, rather than selling the stock.

Please inform our development office of stock transfers so that we can properly acknowledge your gift and forward the information regarding your tax deduction. Please call Diane Blum at: (800) 235-6848.

Community Fundraisers
Right now there are fundraisers happening across the country to benefit LRF. You can support a local fundraiser in your community or organize an event benefiting LRF. Every dollar counts, and the money raised through each school bake sale, neighborhood car wash, benefit concert, dinner party or other fundraiser will help fund LRF's mission to eradicate lymphoma and serve those touched by this disease.

Would you like to organize a Community Fundraiser in your area? Have you recently held an event? Send us your pictures and information about your event and we'll gladly post your story to inspire others with your great ideas. Please contact Taylor Zitay, Development Associate at (646) 465-9103 or tzitay@lymphoma.org for more information.

Gifts That Keep Giving
If you’re thinking about purchasing a gift for a family member, friend, or colleague then please check out some of the companies and small businesses who are donating a portion of their profits to LRF. It's very simple; you buy an item or gift that you would have otherwise purchased and in turn LRF receives a gift from you, too!

Do you work for a company or are a business owner that might be interested in forming a Gifts That Keep Giving Partnership with LRF? If so, please contact Taylor Zitay, Development Associate at (646) 465-9103 or tzitay@lymphoma.org for more information.
