October, 2009
Dear Chapter Members and Friends of LRF,
Many thanks to all who attended and participated in our informative "Ask the Doctor About Lymphoma" program held last month at the Marathon Oil Corporation tower and many thanks to Marathon for hosting the event! Over one hundred people came to hear five world renowned oncologists speak about the latest research regarding lymphoma. We extend our deep appreciation to our speakers, namely
Catherine Bollard, MD (Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Department of Immunology - Baylor College of Medicine),
Luis Campos, MD (Clinical Professor of Medicine - University of Texas , Health Science Center and Oncology Consultants),
Richard E. Champlin, MD (Professor and Chair, Department of Stem Cell Transplantation - M.D. Anderson Cancer Center ),
Barbara Pro, MD (Associate Professor, Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma – M.D. Anderson Cancer Center ), and
Anas Younes, MD (Professor of Medicine, Director of Clinical and Translational Research, Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma – MD Anderson Cancer Center).
We were delighted to meet many wonderful members of the audience both before and after the program and we look forward to seeing them again at future meetings and events.
To continue our mission to serve the needs of the Houston lymphoma community, we will be hosting a
Survivor Networking Night at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the Board Room and Library at the Houstonian Health Club located at 111 North Post Oak Lane, Houston, TX 77024. A Survivor Networking Night is an informal networking reception where lymphoma patients, survivors and loved ones share or just listen to the experience of other local lymphoma survivors. A brief LRF presentation is given and afterward the attendees mingle to share their stories.
Plans are also underway to host Houston's first Lymphomathon – a 5K walk in March, 2010. Please feel free to join us in planning this fun and exciting event and to offer suggestions!
We warmly welcome you to our monthly meetings and look forward to hearing your input regarding Chapter activities. If you can’t attend a meeting, please don’t hesitate to call or write to me with your thoughts at (832) 379-0113 or
Houston@lymphoma.org.
Speaking of communications, we're thrilled to be able to reach out to so many of our supporters via Facebook and Twitter! Please become a "fan" of the Lymphoma Research Foundation – Houston Chapter on Facebook. You can also "follow" us on Twitter at
@LRF_Houston. These are just two more methods by which we hope to continue to serve the Houston lymphoma community.
Thank you very much for your interest and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Warm regards,
Donna Reinbolt

Making a Difference: The LRF Advocacy Program

The Houston Chapter provides important public policy and advocacy updates for chapter members, advocates and volunteers.
Our local Advocacy Program focuses on taking action on laws, policies and positions that affect every lymphoma patient and survivor. By contacting elected officials via phone calls, e-mail and letters in support of these priorities, local advocates help LRF to make lymphoma a national health priority.
We encourage you to attend a local chapter meeting, so that you can learn more about the LRF Advocacy Program, and to receive an update on federal policies likely to affect the lymphoma community. To become involved with these advocacy efforts, contact your local Advocacy Chair today at
advocacy@lymphoma.org.
